MeMaw's house

Young traveler Eli barely had time to recover from his whirlwind trip to Austin before he headed to South Texas to visit MeMaw and meet Grandma and Grandpa Schmidt.

We were able to surprise MeMaw with our visit since she didn't know Eli and I were coming. As it turns out, I was supposed to work at the hospital that Sunday. Oops! Good thing my boss didn't make her usual reminder calls on Friday. Otherwise, I'd would have been pouting like Eli if I would have missed out on this wonderful weekend.

Sorry this blog is a little late in coming. Time seems to get away from me so easily these days. And now that I started back at work, there's even less of it. Time management never was one of my strengths, but I'm getting better.

We arrive.

They meet.

Thumbs up. Eli approves. This MeMaw chick is pretty cool.

Eli loves to be outside. It was REALLY dry there. But as you can see from the picture, it's dry everywhere except within the perimeter of MeMaw's fence.

Eli has developed a new thumb-sucking technique. He's been working very hard on this skill. He can get the correct appendage to his mouth but can't always keep it there.

Two of the three people in this photo are Little Patooties. Can you tell which ones?

Needless to say, Eli got lots of attention from the family. He awoke from his naps with at least four faces staring at him.

It's a good thing he eats it up. He appears to love the attention!

Grandma Schmidt loves to hold babies. She only had nine kids, nineteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren (I may be forgetting somebody). I think she's got the hang of it. And yes, that is a real bird sitting on top of her head. She rescued a baby dove over a year ago and now she thinks Grandma is her mama. Now I know why I have two stray cats living with us. It's in the genes.
