Rosa
Nothing, I mean nothing can stand between a Latina woman and a baby. Rosa, the lovely Ecaudorena lady who cleans our house every blue moon, was there when I came home from work the other day. Despite the fact that our primary means of communication is via voicemail and I have only been in her physical presense on two occasions, both of which consisted of a quick "hola" as we scatter out the door to work and get out of her way, she had no hestitation with sweeping the baby out of my arms and kissing his cheeks. She then handed the baby over to Olga, another latina who was ever too eager to hold the little guerito. I enjoyed their ooohs and ahhs, love and kisses, and possibly a blessing (I don't know, she whispered something in Spanish) over my Eli. He got a little fussy at that point. Then Rosa said, "oh, he hungry? You give him the ti ti?" I'm sure they would have been quite alright with me feeding him downstairs while they whirled around us, cleaning like they had crack for breakfast, but we headed upstairs, ate, and took a little nap.

I love this! "You give him the ti ti?" That is hilarious! Reminds me of when Presley and I flew home from Harlingen last month and all the hispanic ladies wanted to touch her blonde hair on the plane.
ReplyDeleteDeidre - I love your blog :) It's made me laugh and almost cry (hard to resist the lil Eli video).
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but notice that you have a knack for writing! Keep the posts coming.
